For this new release, the old school metal influences like Celtic Frost, Hellhammer and Autopsy are really interesting and new from theses guys. It's Brutal, full of hate and old school for sure! "This is the first non-comp-track release by this band that boasts members from both Austria and Finland. SOTATILA had some of the standouts on the Propaganda Is Hippies compilation LP, and the songs on this EP are every bit as intense. The music has a distinct mid-'80s Finnish hardcore sound that makes its cues from the classics, mostly notably MELLAKKA. Sung in the Finnish tongue, the urgent vocals push this over the top with the right amount of distortion and tactfully placed echo. This one pummels. (SE)"

In January, 2004 born a dream called THE EYES with a few ideas and a few very clear and marked way. From the beginning, Wero and Edgar (predecessors of the group) prepare to look for people ready to fulfill the above mentioned goals. In view of this step and after several concerts with very good reception with bands like Walls Of Jericho, Suffocation, Gorefest or High On Fire, they arrange in August of the same year to record his first LP (Pursuing The Misfortune), of which they obtain very good critiques after his tour along Europe and you change others for Spain. Immediately after this success, the idea arises, together with "La Semilla Del Diablo", of editing 7 " of versions of METALLICA and BLACK SABBATH. I agree after concert and after suffering some changes of formation, THE EYES stands firm at the end of 2007 to record what will be his second LP. It is at the time when the band suffers a strong blow on having remained without singer and battery, and one sees forced to stop his projection up to finding the persons mas indicated.

Re-arising from his ashes, in August, 2008 it begins the recording of what will be the new disc. Wero and Edgar (guitars), (bass) Christian, Michael (battery) and Jordi (vocals) give form to "INSIGNIS", which sees the light at the end of May, 2009 with KAIOWAS's unconditional support RECORDS (Roadrunner records Spain). There has come the hour of spending hundreds of hours in the van travelling, of giving everything in the concerts, and of presenting to the whole world what is The Eyes: INSIGNIS. Soon The Eyes will act in the Sonisphere of Barcelona together with Metallica, Machine Head, Slipknot, Lamb Of God between others and in other summers fests, DO NOT GET LOST THEM!!!!!

Country: France
Genre: Posthardcore, Screamo, Noise Rock.
Label: KDN

I try to follow", "Imposing noise").

This band from Olsztyn (with personal connections to UTOPIA) is around since quite many years, even released demo CD-R few years ago, but during all this time they had several personal/style changes. Now the line up is stable and they built their own sound - powerful, heavy and driving hardcorepunk with 2 guitars and mixed vocals leaded by strong and angry female voice. You can compare their sound to Tragedy, Wolfbrigade etc., but check mp3 to see its not just another clone neo-crust band.

La casa Fantom is a two piece orchestra from the forest outside of Oslo in Norway. The band consist of Lars on drums and Bård on bass, both sing or at least trying to. Our band was formed in 2000 with a cheap crappy drumkit and a bass with selfmade distortion effects. Our name comes from a do it yourself wine kit which gives you 20 liter of redwine in 24 hours. It was just like our music, fast&dirty with a lot of nerves. We have been playing for 8 years now and had our first concert at Blitz in Oslo. We recorded our first demo in the livingroom of our collective in the forest, where we both lived for a time and Lars still lives. The album was made in two days with a kiddy drumkit and a 4-track tapemachine.

Then we upgraded a bit and recorded “Serum” in the same living room.Due to small space and our roommates not so happy about us rehearsing two times a week in the living room, we built our own studio "Iskremboden" in the winter 2002. Since then we have recorded and released three 7” ("Leter I mørket", "Familien" and "Cut") and three 12” ("La casa Fantom", "Ingen ny dag" and "Fredløs"), on our label “Iskrem Plater”. We also make festivals and have bands play concerts in Iskremboden. During these years we have had the luck of touring in 20 countries until now. We feel very lucky to be able to travel around like this and have made many friends that we still come back too see and that also visit us. We feel that this is one of the greatest things about touring in our scene.

There is no border between the bands and the audience and we share a lot of opinions about our lives and the envirement around us.Our music is difficult to describe, it has its roots in punk and hardcore but we have always been fans of taking from all the music we like and mix it in. Borders exists also in music and we always want to breake them. When we play live we like to give everything that the music expresses: the intensity, the aggression and the emotions.

Decurs

A Barcelona and two charros, one of this and another across the Atlantic in 2006 gave way to this power-trio called Decurseable. They defined as "absurd extreme pop and disorderly" what is really a very peculiar way of understanding the closest to punk hardcore. Frantic pace, crazy lyrics and technical capacity hard to find in many other bands of the genre, often err on the side of attitude and aptitude deficit.

Decurs starts with the idea of not having any idea at all. As time goes by they find themselves playing with the only intention of almost not being capable to play what they're playing. Simple and complicated, that may be the idea. In March 2006 they record themselves a 6 song demo in cassette that they give to anyone that appears to be their friend, many refuse, some still keep it packaged. Determined to ruin their friend's lifes, later that year, they decide to record 4 songs in the Blaxound Studios and release them in vinyl in 2007 with help from themselves and their friends "Ojalä me muera recoords" (I wish I die) under the obvious title of "Sietepulgares" (Seveninches).

Today, major achievements of the band are: getting bad words from major music magazines, losing money and friends, meeting Valina and telling them they copied some part from St Petersburg Me Cannibal, and having many good times. Not bad yet.

Horda Bastarda - Old Skull (2004)

The Constellation Branch - The Dream Life, The Real Life, The Empty Glass... (2009)

The Constellation Branch is a four-piece out of Phoenix, Arizona that has put together a unique 11 track CD that can be compared mewithoutYou, Radiohead andSunny Day Real Estate. I found it hard to compare TCB to another band because they stand-out a lot in this genre and sound different than anything I have listened to. Musically this album is put together well and has a very distinctive sound.

They involve a lot of depth into each song lyrically and musically – they know how to bring each song to an epic climax with an eccentric vibe. While listening to TCB you almost need to listen with a set headphones or with a top quality sound system because there are so many intricate layers. The way they blend all the different parts together – the lone voice of Jordan or the guitars, piano, keys, bass, drums or violin – all make for a unique, indistinguishable sound. The CD is titled The Dream Life, The Real Life, The Empty Glass. The album title is referring to three things – the dream life which is what we are hoping for, the real life which includes corporations, greed, and how the world really is, and the empty glass which is us, and what we choose to fill ourselves with.

This is one of the things I admire most about this band – the deep philosophy behind the lyrics and emotions of their music. In order for me to fully understand the emotions, lyrics and back story behind this album, I had to do quite a bit of research – when I discovered the story behind it all, it was touching. The song titled “The False Awakening PTIII: Poisoned Apple” is a song that features the voice of an older German lady which almost sounds like it is dubbed from an old movie or something. In actuality the voice belongs to one of the band member’s (Bryce) Grandma. He recorded her story two years ago when she was talking about the war. Her family was an anti-Nazi family and she told Bryce some incredible stories about how they always made it through as a family together. In another song “The Real Life (American Earth)” they sing about the possessions and raw human emotions of the world, “We are the sky scrapers! We are the cash makers! We are better than you!” Lyrically this is one of the most moving and profound pieces of work I have come across. If you want to hear a new sound of talented indie/rock band with a deep philosophical message behind the lyrics, I highly recommend The Constellation Branch’s CD titled The Dream Life, The Real Life, The Empty Glass. -IndieVisionMusic-

Ashes and Iron - Silens - (2008)

03. Silens

Year: 2008
Country: USA
Genre: Doom, Sludge

Brutales, directos, desagarradores.

Всё в том же 2008 году был выпущен первый альбом «The freedom is worth fighting for».

Notes To Myself - Waking with the Wolves (2009)

White Mice - Ganjahovahdose (2009)

Pun obsessed, toilet-humored, ill-tongued, rodent masked wackos? A weed-fueled, grinding sludge, noise-damaged, brutally supersonic trio? Demented cheese lovers with a queef against God? Yeah the WHITE MICE from Providence, Rhode Island are all those things and more. Too fucked up and unconventional for the average metalhead, too stoned, sleazy and salacious for the hipster and punk set, the WHITE MICE have for years existed on the fringes of every underground scene and belonged to none of em. After condemning the Earth with 5 albums and a deluge of other releases on labels like Load Records and Blossoming Noise, WHITE MICE are now set to defile the world once more in collaboration with 20 Buck Spin.

Their 6th LP, Ganjahovahdose, is the crowning drool in the band's discography, with the most stunning, searing, heavy, and beautiful sound they've achieved yet, thanks in part to the massive mixing job of one Ken “HiWatt” Marshall (Skinny Puppy). Musically speaking one might hear traces of Godflesh, Brainbombs, or Buzzoven, even Flipper and some of their Providence brethren, yet they stand easily apart from any proper comparison, remaining a savage beast of their own making. The band's live show is devastatingly loud, crude and visually incredible leaving mouths agape and the uninitiated properly converted, every time.

A cursory Youtube search will reveal the sinister aesthetic the WHITE MICE inhabit. Further mission plans include lo-fi video productions and relentless touring in the US and Europe. A completely unhealthy revisionist compulsion to alter page after page of history, obscure religious texts and images with their own PUNishingly scatological mockery of all things permeates the perverse Dadaist artwork contained within the album’s pages. The totality of the WHITE MICE vision on Ganjahovahdose stands as a testament in praise of lord Cheesus for bestowing this deadly and volatile molotov concoction of music, art, visuals, irreverence and words onto on an unsuspecting and dangerously unprepared public.

The band’s performance at Chronic Youth’s recent Shai Hulud show at Santos Party House certainly should have humbled most of the following bands. This is heartfelt, authentic shit. Awhile back these guys passed along their debut EP to me and ended up liking what I heard from them. It sort of reminded me of Botch, Deadguy, and the likes in a few ways. Back when that sort of thing was listenable. If there was one criticism to be had, it was maybe a bit too busy with each song being crammed full of time changes, etc. However, the band recently sent me copy of their follow up single and the three songs here sound like a band refining that sound a bit more and cutting away some of the excess fat that seemed to jumble up the songs a bit too much for their own good. All the while, the songs here sound just as heated as the material that I heard previously, which is certainly a good thing. In the end, I am digging on what these guys have to offer. -builtonaweakspot-

Mirror are the New Order to Journal Spy Effort's Joy Division, thankfully without the suicide (or the god-awful Mancunian weather). After four years of line-up changes, committed gigging and just the one E.P, On, Then, In is the band's first full-length release. The accompanying press release has the band down as exponents of "math-rock", while their MySpace page labels them as "indie", "rock" and "emo". Neither description does the band any favours. "Indie" and "rock" aren't too bad, but they're too vague - hell, some people probably think that Coldplay are "indie rock". Secondly, maths does not rock, no matter how you look at it - after all, Sebadoh wanted you to give them indie rock, not math-rock. Any label of that ilk ("post-rock", "jazz-rock" etc) instantly conjures up images of the same goatee-sporting, chin-stroking douche bags that I mentioned in the Anchorsong review. Finally, ‘emo' is only one letter away from being ‘Elmo' and is infinitely more irritating - it's hard to see why any band would want to be part of a genre that has My Chemical Romance as its figurehead . So where does all of this leave Mirror?

Sometimes they are reminiscent of Miaou in the way that they piece together intricate, largely instrumental songs - "In Radiobroadcast Junction" is the only track with vocals here. At other times (especially on the album opener "Pass the town, and to the C") they are more like an instrumental version of nhhmbase. The two bands have similarly tight rhythm sections and a penchant for unexpected jazz-like time changes. Ultimately though, Mirror are Mirror and this is a good thing.

On, Then, In is a very promising debut. There's a slight dip about two-thirds of the way through when the band roll out consecutive sub-two-minute tracks ("Respiration Tone" and "In(S)Tro") - the songs aren't terrible, they're just anonymous. They come and go like the lonely party guest who sits alone in the corner talking to no-one, before departing unnoticed and unmissed. It's a minor quibble though as the rest of the album is full of songs that will worm their way into your consciousness (you may be surprised like I was to find yourself humming a song as complex as "o&l" hours after last listening to the album).

Although they are hardly ploughing a lonely furrow, there's enough about Mirror and On, Then, In to make them stand out among the many other instrumental rock bands. They are playing at the Apple Store in Shibuya next month (the 23rd if you're about) and this seems an apt venue for a band with such clean lines as this. Just don't tell me they're fucking "math-rock.

Country: France

This album sounds tremendous. Aguirre are one of the rare bands that combines the styles of doom, crust and hardcore in a perfect manner. Epic, heavy and melodic tunes as hell. Atmosphere of tortured sick white trash. Alright, here comes the new LP after a split LP with HONGO from spain, you'd better be prepared for some new doomy and gloomy stuff here. AGUIRRE take up new songs and just as on their demo they reek of darkness and agony.

It's so present it's half painful to listen to it, but that's also what draws me in. It's like staring down a bottomless abyss of all that is evil, sensing it, as the complete black allows you to see nothing - and liking it. They haven't changed a whole lot from their previous releases, it's still the minimalist angst with the lonely guitar tunes alternated with thundering heaviness, as with the whispering and roaring vocals - all executed in a real slow pace. It hurts, and I love the pain.

Formerly known as just Stronghold (I'm gonna guess without even looking that there a friggin' zillion other Strongholds out there), the more fully christened Infernal Stronghold sure make a hell of a racket, and that's most definitely in a complimentary fashion. The press release describes them as "basically a DIY punk band that brandish venomous black metal" and it's hard to improve upon that, although the genre emphasis varies from song to song. Album opener "Curb the Trend" sounds like early 80s h/c recorded with modern "kvlt" production values, but the very next track, "Taghut", reverses that altogether and virtually buries any -core tendencies beneath a blistering yet at times atmospheric blackened assault. L

yrics definitely boast a punk flair, mostly consisting of diatribes against wasting one's life away or blindly following in the falsely indoctrinated footsteps of others. "Crashing Trucks Into Churches" sounds like a nihilistic piss take -- shades of Seth Putnam perhaps -- but it's a dead serious rant against some individual, presumably a real life story although one unfamiliar to myself, who crashed his pickup into a church in a conformist attempt to prove his worth amongst his blasphemous cohorts. The title track has got to be the most furious of all, raining unholy hell upon ears and skull alike with one of the most chaotic blastbeats ever unleashed. At 26 minutes and change, Infernal Stronghold don't have many opportunities to prove their diversity, but fuck all that anyway: when you're in the mood for what they have to offer a half hour of uninterrupted musical mayhem is what you're after, and with _Godless Noise_ that's damn sure what you've got.

It seems like grind bands are a dime a dozen these day, and a lot of them sound alike or are just plain mediocre. Out of all the grindcore bands that I've heard lately, Nashgul definitely stands out as one that isn't afraid to stray from the stereotypical barrage of blasts beats and unintelligible guitar. This is one of those albums that you put on and all your friends say "whoa, who the fuck is this?" There is an obvious death metal influence here. The vocals range from piercing high screeches, to low Mesrine-esque growls, along with layered and call and answer dual vocal sections.

What I think really separates these guys from other grind bands is the guitar: it isn't an onslaught of noise oriented chords structured in a "fit as many notes as possible into a 30 second song." There is a noticeable melody and structure to Nashgul's songs, which gives them an appeal to lovers of grind and death metal across the board. This lets you hear the progression of Nashgul's sound without having to keep switching records. If you like death metal and you like grind, buy this album and get blown away. 19 tracks, combining the best elements of Nasum, old Carcass, Terrorizer and Looking For An Answer. One of the best grindcore bands out there right now... By the way, the bands is on tour in september, so check it out.

Seventeen tracks of brutal, grinding crustpunk from Budapest, Hungary! They have been an acrtive part of the local DIY punk community since the late 90's and have numerous releases available in Eastern Europe, and have played with many well-known American and Western European hardcore, punk, and grind bands who've ventured to Hungary, and have made a lasting impression on those they've met. The cover artwork for this CD is by famed NYC activist artist Eric Drooker of WW3 Illustrated (etc.) fame. LP version on Profane Existence recs.
